The Metro have quotes from the 17 year-old, who states that he remains highly confident of joining the Gunners – despite a fee not yet having been agreed between his club and the north London outfit.

“I’ve made a decision [to join Arsenal] and I’m not going to change it,” said Bielik.

“I am looking forward to an agreement between the heads of the clubs. I realise that the negotiations may take some time.

“I am, however, confident it will happen soon.”

Arsenal fans have long coveted a defensive midfielder to add steel to their side, but Bielik is unlikely to be thrust straight into the first team at his young age.

However, Arsene Wenger has conceded that given the chronic Achilles injury troubling star centre back Laurent Koscielny, defensive reinforcements are certainly needed.

“Well yes, with Laurent Koscielny’s injury we’re a bit cautious and we need cover,” confirmed Wenger in December.

Given the injuries suffered by Mikel Arteta recently, and the fact Arsenal are relying on veteran Mathieu Flamini and formerly unwanted Francis Coquelin at the base of their midfield, it is unsurprising to see the Gunners look to shore up the middle of the park too.
