As the Daily Express reported on Wednesday the Reds were the clear favourites to sign the Switzerland international before Inter trumped their offer and Bayern quickly accepted.

It’s believed the Nerrazzuri have signed Shaqiri on loan until the end of the season with the option of signing him permanently in the summer for £10m.
This news will come as a blow to Brendan Rodgers, who is desperate to use the January transfer window to help turn around his team’s fortunes.
Following the sale of Luis Suarez to FC Barcelona over the summer and the relentless injuries to Daniel Sturridge, the Merseysiders have struggled in the final third this season.
Raheem Sterling has remained sharp, but new signings Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert have been poor and although not an out-and-out striker, Shaqiri would certainly have been a useful addition in attack.
The 23-year-old becomes returning Inter manager Roberto Mancini’s second new signing this month along with the loan acquisition of Arsenal star Lukas Podolski.
