The 25 year old is currently on loan at Aston Villa but prefers a permanent move to Goodison Park and Robeto Martinez will look to use funds secured from the sale of Ross Barkley to cover the cost of a move for the £7m rated England man.

The Toffees will look to secure £40m from the sale of Barkley, with Man City thought to be leading the race for the youngster.

Cleverley has been at Man United since the age of 11 and after initially impressing has been pretty much a back-up option and was moved to Villa Park to secure more regular action.

Paul Lambert has used Cleverley extensively, the midfielder starting 16 of the club’s 20 Premier League fixtures this season, and is ready to fork out the £7m needed to bring in the player on a permanent basis but looks likely to lose out in that pursuit.
