Fixtures to kick off earlier next term.

The Premier League will begin a week earlier next season in order to avoid such a hectic Christmas schedule, according to the Daily Star.

From next season the term will kick off on August 8, a full week earlier than the regular opening day.

And that means Premier League players and managers could get their wish of more recovery time between games during the Christmas and New Year fixture programme.

Premier League chiefs have sought to bring the start date forward as they hope it will have a positive impact on England’s Euro 2016 campaign in France.

This rule will likely only come into effect the season before a major tournament, though, meaning it will be business as usual when there is no involvement.

This seasons Christmas schedule was heavily criticised despite the fact teams playing twice in 48 hours is a long held tradition in England.
