According to the Metro, Chelsea were alerted to the potential availability of Hazard when he was a teenager, and he could’ve signed for cheap given that he had not yet penned a professional contract with his former club Lille at the time.

Hazard, now 24, has gone on to prove himself as one of the best players in the world, eventually moving to Chelsea for £32m after also attracting interest from numorous other elite clubs around Europe.

Cash-rich Chelsea may not have too many regrets over failing to land the player earlier, but it could have saved them a considerable amount of money if they had paid more attention to him as a youngster.

In a similar oversight, Chelsea also let Nemanja Matic leave for Benfica as a youngster, before then paying £21m to re-sign him last January.
