Spanish stopper claims United saved him.
Victor Valdes has given his first interview with Manchester United with MUTV since agreeing to join the club on Thursday in an 18-month deal.
The former Barcelona keeper amazingly speaks fluent, almost perfect English, which is quite remarkable considering he spent nearly all of his life in Barcelona.
He claimed that United’s faith in him when Monaco ditched their interest in his services saved him during a particularly low moment in his career.
The Catalan stopper also said that the club left a lasting impression on him after describing the set up there as a ‘family.
He cites Louis Van Gaal as a key factor in his decision to snub interest from Liverpool, saying that he is the most important coach in his career, having given him his debut at the tender age of 20.
Valdes also hailed David de Gea as the world’s best goalkeeper at the moment, but stopped short at admitting to whether he intended to steal his place.
