The 24 year old keeper has arguably been Man United’s most consistent performer over the past 18 months but ongoing talks to secure the former Atletico Madrid man on a longer term contract have seemingly stalled.

Though Man United moved to open talks with de Gea over a new deal last season no formal offer has actually been made and the capture of Valdes is sure to leave the keeper considering his options.

Sir Alex Ferguson brought in De Gea in an £18m deal in 2011 and though he initially struggled for form he is now rightly considered one of the best in his position across Europe and Real Madrid see the player as an ideal summer signing.

Carlo Ancelotti welcomed Iker Casillas back into his starting eleven after the Real Madrid legend had spent the past 18 months on the bench in terms of La Liga action though the World Cup winner hasn’t been hugely impressive and talk of a long term replacement is nothing new.
