Borini has found his opportunities at Anfield limited this season, despite the poor form of Mario Balotelli and a long term injury to star striker Daniel Sturridge. This would be enough to convince most players that they were no longer needed at a club, but the stubborn striker seems determined to force his way into Brendan Rodgers’ plans.

Despite being told he could leave the club last summer, Borini turned down moves to Sunderland and QPR. It was believed that six months on the bench may have left him more open to a move, but his agent confirmed his intentions to remain at the Merseyside club.

“Borini and [Luca] Caldirola will not return to Italy in January,” said Marco De Marchi, who also represents Werder Bremen’s Caldirola.

“I’m happy with Liverpool and Werder Bremen – the teams where they now play.”

Borini has scored just twice in 33 appearances for Liverpool, but remains confident that he has what it takes to make it at the club.
