The 28-year-old wasn’t even on the bench for Man United’s 1-0 loss against Southampton, prompting speculation that he is not in Louis van Gaal’s long term plans.

Currently on loan from Ligue 1 side Monaco, van Gaal will have to decide by the end of the season whether or not he wants to make the deal a permanent one.

Mendes has faith that his client will be playing for a top club next season, but claims his future may not lie with the Red Devils.

“I don’t know [where his future is],” he said.

“He is a fantastic player, and I think it’s very difficult for Manchester United fans.

“They have an absolutely brilliant player, one of the very best in the world, who would without any doubt play 90 minutes of the match, every time, with any other club.

“The truth is, right now we don’t know what will happen. What we do know is that he will play in one of the very best clubs in the world next season, whether that is Manchester United or not.”

The Colombian has struggled with injury problems since joining the club last summer, and has made just 12 Premier League appearances so far. He has scored just three goals in that time, as well as grabbing three assists.

There may be a rift growing between he and the manager, which could seriously impact any potential Old Trafford career he may hope to have.
