The Liverpool boss is a keen admirer of the Montenegrin and there is every chance the former Fiorentina man may be considering his options at the Etihad Stadium following the arrival of Wilfried Bony from Swansea City.

The 25 year old started just two Premier League fixtures in his debut season but has seen far more action this term, making nine starts, though the move to bring in Bony will certainly impact on his chances of forcing his way into Manuel Pellegrini’s starting eleven on a regular basis.

The likes of Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko already stand ahead of Jovetic in Pellegrini’s pecking order.

Rodgers has seen summer signings Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert both fail to deliver the goods and with Daniel Sturridge having missed most of the campaign through injury the Anfield side have fallen way off the top four pace.

Man City are unlikely to consider offers for Jovetic this month given the arrival of Bony was a direct result to issues relating to injuries stretching Pellegrini’s striking options, however in the summer the Premier League title holders may have to consider selling a player or two to help adhere to UEFA’s FFP (Financial Fair Play) guidelines.

Man City paid £22m for Jovetic in July 2013 and the cultured forward could well suit Rodgers style of play and may well be within the club’s budget.

Liverpool’s chances of luring Jovetic would be significantly increased if they have secured a Champions League berth for 2015/16 though the promise of regular first team football alone may make such a switch tempting either way.

Jovetic has bagged five goals 12 Premier League appearances this season.
