The England international has returned to training with the Reds, but is still unlikely to make it for the key tie. He is yet to take part in a full session with the team, and this means that he is unlikely to be ready to play for several weeks.

The striker has been missed by the Merseyside club this season, with summer signings Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert both having trouble in front of goal. Fabio Borini has also struggled when he has been given a chance. This has led to supporters waiting with bated breath for the return of the player who scored twenty one times during the last campaign.

The forward could be joined on the sidelines by Steven Gerrard, who faces a late fitness test to see if he will be able to play against the Stamford Bridge outfit.
