Gunners manager Arsene Wenger confirmed the disappointing news ahead of the weekend clash with Manchester City.

“Mathieu had a surgery on his right shoulder following the injury on Sunday,” Wenger was quoted on the club’s website.

“It’s very unfortunate for Mathieu, it’s unbelievable because he’s had two surgeries in the same season. He just came back, he played seven games and he’s out again.

“I count three months out for Mathieu because contact will be a problem for the shoulder.”

This is the second time Debuchy has been ruled out for a lengthy spell since arriving at the Emirates Stadium in a £12m deal from Newcastle United over the summer.

First time around the 29-year-old suffered an ankle injury that also required an operation and as a result of these problems the defender has played just 14 times for the North Londoners to date in all competitions.

This latest issue just adds to the problems for Wenger, with captain Mikel Arteta also out for three months after having ankle surgery and forward Danny Welbeck also ruled out for Sunday’s match with City.
