The Stamford Bridge outfit endured a tough festive schedule playing four league games in the space of just 11 days, which took its toll on the squad as they drew at Southampton and had a shocker in the 5-3 defeat to Tottenham.

“Losing to Tottenham like we did was a shock, but when you watch the game again you see that every chance they had, they scored,” Fabregas said.

“It was one of those days where we hit the post, Ramires and Cesar Azpilicueta also had a chance. Things didn’t go our way, but credit to Tottenham, they played a good game. But that’s it, we are just looking to move forward now”.

In response to the worry of that his could suffer a burnout, Jose Mourinho gave first team regulars a few days rest – including Fabregas, Eden Hazard and John Terry – in the hope of reinvigorating the squad.

The decision paid off with the West Londoners seeing off Watford in the FA Cup and getting a crucial win in the league against Newcastle United to give them a two point cushion over reigning champions Manchester City.

Fabregas says the Blues are only looking forward and will continue to push on in the second half of the season knowing that there is no room for complacency.
