The Chilean international, a summer signing from Barcelona, has been in superb form in his first season in England, scoring 18 goals for the Gunners in all competitions.

With Arsenal’s injury record, one could understand the temptation for Wenger to rest his star player whenever possible, but Sanchez has supposedly asked to keep on playing in all competitions.

The 26-year-old is surely set to start for Arsenal as they take on champions Manchester City in the Premier League this weekend, but may have been due a rest for the team’s game against Championship side Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Arsenal have been lucky with Sanchez’s fitness this season, while big names such as Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta have all missed large chunks of the campaign so far.
