The England international suffered thigh injury during the 2-2 draw with Leicester City on New Year’s Day, but despite the initial prognosis manager Brendan Rodgers could welcome Lallana back this weekend.

“He was playing very well and had settled into the club well before he was injured,” Rodgers was quoted by the Mirror.

“He’s ahead of schedule in terms of rehabilitation and we are hoping he can join the group tomorrow in training.

“If he’s not available for the weekend, he certainly will be for Chelsea.”

Lallana has started to find some form for the Reds after finding things difficult upon first arriving at Anfield following a £25m summer transfer from Southampton.

The 26-year-old is now an integral part of Rodgers’ starting XI and with captain Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge also doubts with fitness issues, having the Englishman available would be a great boost.

Raheem Sterling is likely to start having returned from his controversial winter break to Jamaica.
