According to AS Roma president James Pollatta, if a ‘huge’ bid comes in for midfielder Kevin Strootman, the club would have to seriously consider the offer.

The club supremo stated that the Italian side want the very best team possible at the club, but as ‘businessmen’, they cannot ignore the possibility of securing a sizable fee for any player:

“We want to put the best team on the pitch, that’s the most important thing,” Pallotta was quoted by talkSPORT.

“But we’re businessmen. If someone comes in with a stupid number for a player, you have to listen to it. You can’t just say ‘no, no matter what.

“My view is that I don’t want Kevin to go, for example, but if someone offers a huge amount, you at least have to listen to them.”

Strootman has struggled this season following a cruciate ligament injury that has restricted the 24 year old to just two starts this season, but Manchester United boss van Gaal remains keen to strengthen the Red Devils midfield, knowing the player well from his time as Netherlands manager.

As a strong passer of the ball with the ability to break-up the play and shore up the midfield, Strootman would be a welcome addition at Old Trafford – but having just returned from a nine-month injury lay-off the Stadio Olimpico star could represent a risky signing.
