Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is known to be keen on the 21 year old Argentine international but Atletico Madrid’s ongoing interest in the forward could push Liverpool into making an offer this month.

Diego Simeone is willing to offer midfielder Mario Suarez plus cash for Icardi and such a bid may prove amenable to manager Roberto Mancini.

Inter may be forced into considering offers for Icardi as the San Siro side looks to adhere to UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules, a fact that sporting director Marco Fassone has already conceded by stating;

“Without the Champions League, some sales may be inevitable.”

Icardi has been in fine form this term, his ten Serie A goal bettered only by Juve’s Carlos Tevez, this despite his Inter Milan side sitting in mid-table.

Rodgers could of course well do with a striking addition with summer captures Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert but failing to make an impact, though £30m seems a steep price to pay for Icardi given his relative lack of top level experience.

Such a move would constitute something of a risk.

Liverpool certainly miss Luis Suarez, who left for Barcelona last summer, and the sale of the Uruguayan has been exacerbated by the loss of Daniel Sturridge through injury for much of the current campaign.
