The Chilean has been instrumental for the Gunners this season, with his performances being key in keeping the North London club in the race for the top four in the Premier League. Without his seventeen goals and eight assists this season, they may not have been able to qualify from the Champions League group, and would be way off the pace in the race to qualify for the competition in the next campaign.

However, despite this the Frenchman believes that the 26-year-old can still improve his performances away from home. His last away goal was two months ago, and the majority of them have been against relegation strugglers. Meanwhile, his performances at Liverpool and Chelsea were noticeable for the lack of impact he had.

“It is true Alexis was not at his best at Chelsea and at Liverpool but maybe that’s because the team has not been as effective away from home,” said the 65-year-old. “When you are a striker, you depend on how much your team pushes forward. And when the team doesn’t play as well as you would like it’s difficult for him to get good balls.

“Against Liverpool last month we played with Sanchez, Giroud and Welbeck up front and maybe none of them were at their best because they didn’t have the service they needed. Of course Alexis feeds off the crowd at the Emirates and that makes him more dynamic,” he added. “But he is generally enthusiastic wherever we play and he has had some good away games, too.”

Arsenal play against Manchester City today, and will be hoping that the former Barcelona man will be able to heed his words and help them to an unlikely victory against the current champions.
