There have been doubts over the Argentine’s future at the Catalan club, with Chelsea being repeatedly linked with a move to sign the forward. Manchester United have also been rumoured to be willing to snap up the Nou Camp star.

Now his former manager has entered the fray and has advised Messi to stay put at the La Liga giants.

The 44-year-old apparently told Messi to appreciate what Barca have done for him both professionally and personally. He also warned the World Cup finalist that he would not receive the same backing at any other side.

Supposedly the 27-year-old listens to the advice of those that have guided his career, and the comments are thought to have a major impact on him. Guardiola also backed the current Barcelona manager Luis Enrique to turn things around at the Nou Camp, adding that the upcoming elections will end the turbulence at the team.
