The 30 year old has scored just two Premier League goals this term and has fallen down Mauricio Pochettino’s pecking order as a result, leading to speculation over his long term future at the north London club.

Commenting on such speculation the Togo international stated;

“I am a footballer, you know? Obviously a lot of people always say I always play for contracts – at the end of the day, we are all footballers,”

With Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela similarly struggling in front of goal a lot of pressure has been heaped on Harry Kane’s young shoulders and he has not been found wanting.

The 21 year old has bagged 17 goals in all competitions and as such Pochettino may feel he can afford to offload Adebayor in order to may way for potential replacements.

The former Arsenal and Man City man impressed under Tim Sherwood at points last term but has since gone off the boil, leading to being dropped by Argentine boss Pochettino.

Adebayor’s last Premier League start came in November.
