Tutto Mercato Web say the the Dutch coach has sounded out the Brazilian over a possible move to United with van Gaal personally identifying Alves as a player he’d wish to capture.

The Brazil international would seemingly be an easier target for United to capture than the likes of Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne and Everton’s Seamus Coleman – who have been linked with an Old Trafford move in recent days.

The Barcelona defender is in the final year of his contract with the Catalan club and has already expressed his desire to leave in the summer and possibly play in the Premier League.

Alves arrived at the Camp Nou in 2008 and was a key member of the side during the hugely successful reign of Pep Guardiola.

With just six months left on his contract, the Brazilian would certainly be a tempting player to  target and would be allowed to agree a deal with club’s abroad.
