The Chilean international forward, who joined the Gunners from Barcelona in the summer transfer window, has twice been targeted by the Red Devils – initially when Sir Alex Ferguson was still with the club.

The Scot attempted to hijack a move for Sanchez in the summer of 2011, when it looked like he could be joining rivals Manchester City, but United’s intervention did little more than leading him to sign for Barca instead.

Sanchez then spent three years at the Nou Camp before being offloaded to Arsenal this summer, and he has shown Premier League sides what they have been missing with some fantastic displays at the Emirates Stadium.

Liverpool were also known to be in for the 26-year-old in pre-season, but it is claimed that the player favoured the chance to live in London and therefore chose to move to the Gunners instead.
