The 27-year-old has been in sensational form on his return to England this season, and picked up his 15th assist in the Blues’ 5-0 victory over Swansea City on Saturday. He also created 15 goals in the 2007/8 season while at the Gunners.

Not only has he managed to do this twice now, but this time round he looks set to beat Thierry Henry’s record 20 in one season.

The Spaniard now has just under half the campaign to get a quarter of the assists that he has in the first 22 games. One would think that all of this will make Arsene Wenger regret the fact that he turned down the chance to sign the midfielder in the summer.

The North London club had first option on the player as part of the deal that sold him to FC Barcelona in the first place, but Wenger declined as players such as Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere were already at the Emirates Stadium.
