The Etihad Stadium side have of course just forked out a big sum to sign Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony but Pellegrini may still feel he can improve his front-line further.

Falcao is on loan at Old Trafford this term but his form thus far may well end any interest in Louis van Gaal bringing in the Colombian on a permanent basis, which would of course leave the door ajar for City.

28 year old south American Falcao has struggled to hit the right notes at Man United, netting just three goals in 13 Premier League fixtures, which is in marked contrast to the ease with which the powerful marksman has found the net in Portugal, Spain and France.

Pellegrini can count on first choice starter Sergio Aguero to offer a prolific attacking option in the final third though arguably neither Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic provide enough support, especially when the Argentine is unavailable.

As such one can understand why the City boss signed Bony but any move for Falcao would presumably entail the sale of one, or perhaps two, of those forward’s in his armoury.
