Manchester City are believed to have made enquiries over the availability of arguably the most wanted man in world football, Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus – reports the Daily Star.

The source confirms that Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool have all been linked with the German midfielder, but it’s the Premier League champions who have moved first, despite already splashing out £28m on Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony this month.

Reus has a £20m release clause in his contract, while City boss Manuel Pellegrini is prepared to offer the 25-year-old a deal worth around £200,000-a-week to convince him to make the move to the Etihad Stadium.

Much has been made of Reus’ potential availability after Dortmund’s disastrous start to their domestic season, which has seen the drop to 17th place in the Bundesliga, with more defeats – ten – than any other team.

Real Madrid are also chasing the player, but Reus, who has 23 caps for his country, has supposedly told friends that he would consider an offer from City, as he strives to play at the highest level possible.

A source said: “Marco Reus is the sort of top quality player City need to reach the next level and prove themselves in Europe.”
