The Red Devils have apparently made the centre-back their first choice target for the next transfer window, and have already started negotiations for the player. However, it would seem that the French club are playing hardball with them.

Despite paying £26 million to buy the Brazilian in 2013, the defender has found himself on the substitutes’ bench more often than he would like. In the current campaign he has played 15 times for the Ligue 1 champions, with only 10 starts of those coming out of the 21 league matches so far. This lack of first team action led to him missing the World Cup last summer.

However, even with the lack of time the 20-year-old is getting at the Parisian club they still want top dollar should they sell him. The £112 million quote was apparently a joke, but it is still a sign of the manner they are going to approach the negotiations.

A Sun source said: “It was said in a jokey manner but Paris Saint-Germain are certain to expect a huge return on their investment to show they did not spend all that money for Marquinhos for nothing.”
