The Northern Irishman has presided over a disappointing season for the Merseyside club. The side have been unable to follow up last campaign’s title challenge with another effort at finishing in first.

They have struggled so far and find themselves in eighth place, five points off the top four.

However, despite this Rodgers believes that next season the Anfield outfit will be able to compete at the top of the division once more.

“Next season we will be able to challenge for the league again,” the 41-year-old was quoted by the Mirror.

Rodgers will be happy with the performance that his side put in on Tuesday night, where they drew 1-1 with Chelsea in the first leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final.

The Reds boss will be hoping that are able to continue this form in their FA Cup fourth round match with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday as well.
