Manchester United could turn their attentions to Aleksandar Dragovic in their centre-back search…

Louis van Gaal has outlined Aleksandar Dragovic as a major transfer target during the remainder of the January transfer market, as he continues to chance defensive reinforcements for his Manchester United side.

Reports in the Metro claim that the former Arsenal and West Ham United target, who currently plays for Dynamo Kiev, is one of a number of candidates for a switch to Old Trafford, alongside Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar and Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund.

Austrian international Dragovic, 23, made his name playing for Basel between 2011 and 2013, having begun his career with Austria Wien. He signed a five-year contract with Kiev 18 months ago, but van Gaal seemingly fancies his chances of luring the player to Manchester.

The Dutchman signed Marcos Rojo last summer, but has otherwise failed to replace the long-serving duo of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, who both left last year, while youngsters Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett have regularly been forced to act as cover.

United have so far been left frustrated in their attempts to lure either Vlaar or Hummels to the club, so could turn their attentions to Dragovic as time runs out in the current transfer window.
