Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is confident of signing Barcelona right-back Dani Alves on a free transfer this summer, according to The Express.
Brazil international Alves, who became the world’s most expensive defender when he joined Barca from Sevilla for €32.5m in 2008, will be out of contract at the end of the season.
Arsenal and Chelsea are among a long list of clubs interested in the Alves.
However, Van Gaal is reportedly hopeful that January signing Victor Valdes, who played with Alves for six seasons at Barca, will help convince the 31-year-old to join him at Old Trafford.
Alves has won four La Liga titles with Barca, as well as two Champions Leagues, two Copa del Reys and two FIFA Club World Cups.
