Real Sociedad are in deep discussions with Arsenal over the future of serial benchwarmer Joel Campbell – with the Spanish side eager for a short-term loan deal.

Tutto Mercato Web also say the representatives for La Liga club are also tasked with attempting to sign Chelsea Mohamed Salah, as David Moyes looks to bolster his side’s attack.

Moyes may have trouble convincing Salah, however, who is also said to be on the radar of AS Roma, AS Monaco and Atletico Madrid.

For Campbell, Sociedad want to loan the Costa Rica forward until the end of the season and are feeling confident they will reach an agreement with the Gunners.

The 22-year-old has hardly impressed since he returned to North London following three seasons on loan whilst waiting to qualify for a work permit.

He’s made just three starts all season for the North Londoners, none coming in the Premier League, and has yet to break his goalscoring duck for Arsene Wenger’s side.

However, the move would be a strange one and something of a gamble from Wenger as he has already allowed Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo to leave the Emirates Stadium – both short-term loan deals to Inter Milan and Crystal Palace respectively.

Reports yesterday in the Daily Mirror said Campbell was also of interest to another La Liga side, Villarreal, whom Arsenal are currently negotiating the transfer of central defender Gabriel Paulista and could be used as a makeweight in a deal.

It remains to be seen whether the 22 year old will actually leave the Emirates this January, but it does seem his days in North London are certainly numbered.
