Newcastle United face a battle to keep hold of top goalscorer Papiss Cisse during the course of the January transfer window, with the Mirror reporting that Turkish giants Galatasaray are hoping to secure a deal for the Senegalese international before he returns from his nation’s campaign at the African Cup of Nations.

Cisse is Newcastle’s top scorer this season despite missing significant swathes of the campaign through injury, with fitness concerns leading to him sitting on the bench for Senegal’s opening victory over Ghana at the tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

He is still rated as one of the Premier League’s most prolific goalscorers and consistent finishers, however, which has led Galatasaray to consider a move for the 29 year-old as they look to add firepower to held them in a Turkish title race that has been surprisingly gatecrashed by Besiktas this season.

Scouts are also said to be present at Senegal’s games at the Nations Cup as they believe that Newcastle could be tempted into selling Cisse, with the club currently in something of a state of disarray following the departure of manager Alan Pardew.
