The Roman club are the latest to be linked with the misfiring Liverpool striker.

High flying Serie A outfit Lazio are the latest side to be linked with a January swoop for misfiring Liverpool centre forward Mario Balotelli, report the Metro, as interest in taking the Italian international off Brendan Rodgers’ hands continues to intensify.

Balotelli only arrived at Anfield in the summer from Lazio’s Serie A rivals AC Milan, but despite his impressive goalscoring record at the San Siro, Balotelli has been unable to translate his performances back into the English game, with only one Liverpool goal to his name so far – in the Champions League against Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets Razgrad.

The impending return to fitness and first team action of first choice striker and England international Daniel Sturridge is only set to push Balotelli further back down the pecking order and, with Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert preferred ahead of him in recent weeks, the Italian’s prospects do not look great.

Lazio, meanwhile, are enjoying a fine recent run in Serie A as the performances of young Brazilian Felipe Anderson have helped to propel them into the midst of a wide open battle for the final Serie A Champions League qualification place.
