The 24 year old Real Madrid midfielder is said to be looking for an exit from the Bernabeu after struggling to hold down a first team place and now having to contend with new Real signing Lucas Silva, a direct rival for his position.

Illarramendi was a former Sociedad player before moving to the Spanish capital in 2013 and Moyes has admitted he is interested in bringing him back to the San Sebastien.

“I know the player and his qualities well. When I was at Everton I looked at him,” said Moyes, reports Goal.com

“It seems that Real Madrid don’t want to use him and I’d be delighted if he came here, but we need all the information from Madrid so that we can see what might happen.”

A move for the Spaniard could also Moyes scupper the transfer plans of his former bosses at Manchester United who are also said to be looking at Illarramendi.

And the Scot is not prepared to stop there, Moyes is keen to acquire a number of January transfer targets with Burnley’s Danny Ings and Arsenal’s Joel Campbell also linked as his La Liga side stand at the halfway point of the season with just 19 points.
