The 26 year old Colombian has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks with Jose Mourinho’s side ready to offer £20m for the wide-man.

The Serie A side will be powerless to prevent Cuadrado from leaving if his £26m release clause is met but Montella is keen to prevent any sale below that fee and is willing to put his job on the line out of principle.

Cuadrado was in superb form last term, netting 15 goals in all competitions, and then had a solid World Cup showing last summer leading to speculation that he could secure a ‘high-profile’ exit from the Stadio Artemio Franchi side.

Mourinho is ready to offload Andre Schurrle or Mohamed Salah in preparation for any potential move to bring in Cuadrado, with neither player being anything more than bit-part players in his Chelsea set-up at present.
