The Brazilian wide-man has been linked with a £16m move to the Blues in the last couple of days, and it is thought that he could be on his way to the club as a replacement in that position for the likes of Andre Schurrle and Mohamed Salah, who continue to be linked with exits this month.

Costa has impressed with his performances in Ukraine, and now appears ready to move on to a bigger club and perhaps test himself in the Premier League.

Although Mourinho did not comment on whether a deal was likely, the Portuguese coach may have hinted that he is keen to bring in Costa after saying he was happy to learn that the player is enthusiastic about the prospect of joining the club.

“I am always happy when a player tells us that he would like to play for my club,” he said.

“I am always happy so the reaction for Douglas Costa is the reaction of being happy with his comments and every Douglas Costa in the world that would like to play for Chelsea … these kind of feelings are always welcome.”
