The pair are after an Inter Milan forward…
Liverpool and Chelsea are set to fight over the signature of Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, according to the Telegraph.
The 21-year-old has impressed in Serie A during the current campaign, scoring 1o goals in 19 appearances in the top flight. This would seem to be what has piqued the interest of the two Premier League giants.
Liverpool are in need of a striker with the team struggling to deal with the departure of Luis Suarez and the injury of Daniel Sturridge. Against Bolton and Chelsea recently, the Reds have battered the opposition without being able to find the back of the net more than once. The Stamford Bridge outfit are not in quite the same position, as Diego Costa, Loic Remy, Didier Drogba have been in fine form this season, but Jose Mourinho is constantly looking to bolster an already world-class squad – with the latter of those three turning 37 in the summer.
The pair play each other in the second leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final on Tuesday. The tie is finely poised after they drew the first leg 1-1 at Anfield, although Chelsea will be favourites due to home advantage and the away goal already bagged.
