Fans have been unhappy with the style of football under new manager Louis van Gaal in recent times, and he has had to defend his tactics in the Mirror. However, the Spaniard has defended how the 63-year-old has the team playing even though they have only scored five times in the last six games. Two of those were against Yeovil Town.

“I think we are all learning from the manager,” Mata said. “He is a great character and a great coach. The way he wants to play football is the right way, which is an attacking way.

“That means we try to work hard with the ball, try to create space to pass the ball quickly and to switch it from side to side. I really like the way he sees football and we are all trying to do our best for him, the staff and for Ryan [Giggs],” he added.

Supporters won’t have been made any happier by the performance from the Mancunian side in their 0-0 draw with Cambridge United on Friday night.
