The Stamford Bridge side have registered offers for Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado and Shakhtar Donetsk star Douglas Costa but apparently see 25-year-old Magpies man Sissoko as a potential alternative.

Jose Mourinho is known to be a fan of the French international and of course St James’ Park owner Mike Ashley is well known for his propensity to sell his side’s top talents if a profit it to be made.

Newcastle United signed Sissoko in January 2013 and the rangy midfielder has adapted well to life in the English top tier. Chelsea’s push to lure the former Toulouse man to West London may be aided by the fact that the manager who signed him, Alan Pardew, quit the club earlier this month.

Another motivating factor is Newcastle United’s alarming dip in form that has seen the north-east side lose seven of their last nine fixtures.

Sissoko could offer Mourinho a strong midfield option, though one would imagine he would struggle to retain a foothold in Chelsea’s starting eleven – with the likes of Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas already occupying guaranteed starting spots.
