The midfielder put pen to paper on a new deal that runs until 2019 on Sunday, but former Villains and Reds ace Stan Collymore thinks that this is only a ruse to get more money for the England international when he finally leaves. The ex-striker believes that there will be clauses in the contract that allow Delph to move should he want to.

“In reality it means we can get money for Fabian in the summer. Proper money. Contract probabilities. A, possible release clause if AVFC relegated. B, an agreed trigger figure should another club meet it. Let’s say £30m,” Collymore wrote on Twitter.

“Not saying anyone will pay £30m, club will want it to be as high as possible to put clubs off.”

The 25-year-old has been part of a Aston Villa side that has been heavily criticised for its boring style of play in recent weeks. Manager Paul Lambert has been the target of much of the unhappiness from fans. The midfielder hasn’t exactly helped the situation by failing to score or assist a single goal in his twelve Premier League matches this campaign.
