It is unclear what the pair were arguing over, but the report claims they were swearing at each other throughout a heated debate in English.

Intriguingly, the bust-up story has come out at the same time as a claim from Reuters that that the former Barcelona man has put talks for a new contract on hold until the summer – though it is not known whether the two items are related.

If Guardiola was to leave the Bundesliga champions, he would certainly not be short of suitors.

Having won 18 major trophies since starting as a manager in 2008, no currently active manager can match Guardiola’s record.

Any of the Premier League’s bigger sides would be happy to have the 44-year-old given the unbelievable success that he has enjoyed at both the Nou Camp and the Allianz Arena. Clubs in Serie A and La Liga too would be sure to enter any race to sign up the tactically innovative coach.

Guardiola has now shone in both Spain and Germany, and a new country may well be high up his list should he move on.
