The 31-year-old has 18 months to run on his current contract and as yet there are no fresh talks to extend that deal, leaving the Dutchman a little in limbo.

On the subject of whether the former Arsenal man would see out his career at Man United, Robin Van Persie stated;

“It is not up to me. For the moment I am staying here for 18 months,” he told reporters.

“I can’t look into the future. I don’t know what is going to happen after that. We shall have to wait and see.”

As responses go that’s a pretty non-committal one and will do little to quash exit speculation.

Van Persie hasn’t been in the best of form of late, netting just eight goals in 20 Premier League starts, and one imagines his future at Man United would become more unclear should Louis van Gaal’s side fail to secure a top four finish.

Things have been rather up and down for Van Persie since his £24m move to Man United. The striker netting 30 goals in a debut season that saw Sir Alex Ferguson secure a Premier League title before the Scot retired from his managerial post, but life under David Moyes proved a struggle for Van Persie. His form has continued to stutter following van Gaal’s appointment last summer, too.
