Arsene Wenger is looking to add another defensive recruit to the squad at the Emirates…

Arsenal are set to make a £13.5 million bid to activate the release clause of Valencia left-back Jose Luis Gaya, according to the Daily Express.

This offer is to fight off interest from Real Madrid in the 19-year-old. Los Blancos have started to look at younger players than usual during the current window, as evidenced by their signings of 16-year-old Martin Odegaard and 21-year-old Lucas Silva.

However, both of the clubs may end up being disappointed in their efforts as Valencia still hold out hope of keeping hold of the defender. They are apparently going to offer the youngster a new contract to get rid of the relatively low release clause.

This could potentially be the third defensive signing by Arsene Wenger during the current transfer window. They have already signed centre-back/defensive midfielder Krystian Bielik, and are close to completing a deal for fellow centre-back Gabriel Pauilista.
