Argentine has long thought to have been on the top of Brendan Rodgers wish list.

Liverpool are reportedly nearing a £14 million deal with Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain for Argentinian forward Ezequiel Lavezzi.

The Daily Express reports that Lavezzi looks near to a Parc des Princes exit after being left out of PSG’s winter training camp, whilst he was given just five minutes playing time in the reigning French Champion’s 1-0 win over Saint-Etienne as well.

Liverpool, says the Express, attempted to sign Lavezzi in the summer after the exit of Luiz Suarez, having also failed to land Alexis Sanchez who chose Arsenal over Anfield.

The 29 year old was scouted by Liverpool over the weekend and Rodgers is hoping to complete a deal for the former Napoli man before the transfer window slams shut next week.

Despite his big money move to the French capital, Lavezzi has only impressed sporadically and so far this season has acquired just two goals and two assists.

Perhaps a move to Anfield could reignite the Argentinian’s career, as Liverpool continue to search for a replacement for Luis Suarez and the injured Daniel Sturridge’s goals upfront.
