Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal is looking to strengthen his back-line and there is no denying that 20 year old Marquinhos has the potential to mature into a real defensive force.

However PSG want £38m for the Brazilian international and that may scare off the Premier League side despite the massive sums van Gaal has spent since taking over as Man United boss.

PSG signed Marquinhos from AS Roma in July 2013 for around £25m and has found himself behind the likes of Thiago Silva and David Luiz in Laurent Blanc’s starting eleven at times this term and as such it may be wishful thinking for the Ligue 1 side to garner such a fee for his services.

Marquinhos’ agent Giuliano Bertolucci has confirmed a number of sides are keen on his client and has publicly cited Man United as one of those tracking the youngster.

Van Gaal’s central defensive options this term have proven largely ineffective with senior stars Phil Jones and Jonny Evans being particularly disappointing.
