The Gunners’ talismanic forward has been a revelation for the club he joined this summer, fast becoming their top scorer – but could be set to sit out the visit of Paul Lambert’s side.

“The squad will be exactly the same as last Sunday. The only uncertainty we have is Alexis Sanchez who has a hamstring concern, and that will be decided on Saturday. He might be out for Sunday,” Wenger told the Arsenal official website.

The news probably won’t come as a surprise to many Arsenal fans as the 26 year old has played the most minutes out of any of the North London side’s squad and paired with his exhaustive style it’s surprising he hasn’t been injured sooner.

However, given the calibre of opposition and the upcoming North London Derby next weekend, perhaps it’s a blessing in disguise the team’s main man may get a rest.

Wenger also revealed that Gabriel Paulista – his new defensive signing – could also feature against the Villans and make his debut.

“Gabriel is available, we’ll check him how he is physically but he should be alright,” said the Frenchman.

Meanwhile, Danny Welbeck remains close to a return but the weekend’s game is too soon as it is for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain whose groin issue keeps him from the squad.
