Wolves are thought to have set a £2-2.5m price threshold for their prized asset, whose contract runs out in six months, but with a ‘special rate’ for arch-rivals West Brom as hierarchy at the club appreciate the PR disaster it would cause to sell him to them.

Sako, who is currently on international duty at the African Cup of Nations with Mali, is thought to have told Wolves he wants to help them into the Premier League and will then sign a new contract but if they do not get promoted he will be free to leave in summer.
