The 29 year old will be out of contract at his Ligue 1 side this summer and as such Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers may feel he could lure the French side into selling the player this month in preference to seeing the striker leave on a free transfer at the end of the current campaign.

With neither Rickie Lambert nor Mario Balotelli impressing since their summer moves to Merseyside there is certainly scope for reinforcing the Liverpool front-line.

Gignac has been in fine form this term, netting 15 goals in 23 appearances, form that has helped make Marcelo Beilsa’s side title challengers, and this could perhaps leave the former Lorient and Toulouse man to remain at the Stade Velodome until the season’s end.

Liverpool have struggled for goals this term and the loss of Daniel Sturridge through injury for most of the campaign has been keenly felt.
