Jose Enrique heaps praise on Philippe Coutinho following his contract extension.

Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique has congratulated team-mate Philippe Coutinho after the midfielder signed a new long-term contract today, which will keep him at the club until 2020 (via the Guardian).

Since Brendan Rodgers altered his formation and played two creative players behind Raheem Sterling, Coutinho has been in impressive form – providing four assists in his last six appearances.

Joining from Inter Milan in the January window of 2013, the Brazilian has grown in stature and is one of Rodgers’ key performers in recent months. With the imminent departure of Steven Gerrard, Liverpool need star players to step-up and take responsibility and Coutinho seems to be doing exactly that.

Enrique reserved special praise for his colleague and even referred to him as a “magician”, a clear indication of how the Liverpool no.10 is highly regarded by the other members of the Liverpool Squad.

Enrique himself has endured a tough time recently and has failed to regain his place among Rodgers’ first team plans since recovering from the long-term injury. Check his message to Coutinho below.
