The 19-year-old enjoyed a solid debut against Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday.

His post rattling shot was the closest either team came to netting during a fiercely contested fixture.

Apparently the attacker only found out he was playing on Friday, making his accomplishments all the more impressive.

The rest of the 224th encounter between the local rivals was a turgid affair, with a Steven Gerrard free kick and a Seamus Coleman shot the only other clear cut goal-scoring opportunities, though both sides may well be happy taking a point each from the clash.

Gerrard said after the encounter,

“Ibe was fantastic. He only found out he was playing yesterday so to have 24 hours to prepare for a big match like this and be man of the match, it was a very sensational performance.”

He added, “He was very unlucky not to get the winner with that unbelievable strike in the first half so he’s got a big future and, if he keeps working hard he’s got a terrific future.”

Ibe could feature in another big game on Wednesday, with the Reds going up against Tottenham, in what will be an important game in the race for the top four.
