The Ecuadorian also mentioned that the interest has spurred him on to further improve his game.

He only moved to the Premier League in the summer after an impressive World Cup earned him a move from Mexican side Pachuca. The 25-year-old has been a solid performer for the East London club since arriving, scoring three times and grabbing three assists in 20 league appearances.

Although these stats don’t mark him out as one of the top performers in the division, he has still shown enough to get the attention of league leaders Chelsea, who have been linked with a £21m deadline-day bid for the Hammers man.

He told the Daily Mail, “I found out about it from the social networks and from what my team-mates were saying. Nobody said anything definite to me. But if a team like Chelsea is interested in me, it’s a big compliment. It makes me want to keep on getting better.”
